This is aimed at those who use FaceBook regularly (which is a lot of you. If you don't have one, you can ignore this. But pass on the info to those you know that DO.)
First, about Java, by Oracle:
Java, thanks to hacking threats, updates its version about twice a week. Uninstall your older version before installing the new one. I'm saying this 'cause my lastest version didn't install successfully, and I got into trouble that I want to relate, so that you don't make the same mistake I did.
I use Bing for my Search Engine (more secure than Google) and looked up something to "fix" Java on my PC. STUPID MOVE. I clicked on something called Fix Java Now...Microsoft Error-Fixer. (Java is NO PART of Microsoft. First Red Flag there!

) Then it takes you to a site "endorsed" by Windows and Microsoft. DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING! Back out. 90% of these "fix-its" on the Net are
FRAUDULANT and are in fact MALWARE . (If you're a PC genius and this is old news, you can move on. Not everyone on here is computer/net savvy. I'm one of them. Just don't want anyone else getting caught in this) It will install and "find problems" to scare you. Then you pay for their "fix" ware which is also malware. They can suck anything from your PC I guess...ID, registry, etc. I'm not sure about that, but with CyberCrime on the rise, anything is possible. Be aware.)
I had to take my PC to the PC Doc (they are VERY knowledgable folks) to clean it out and restore my registry. No harm done...I took it RIGHT IN just after I did this stupid stunt. I should've let her slap me. After a minimal fee of $20 (it's usually $65 an hour...they're that good), I joked "the penalty for this stupidity shouldn't be cheap". But she was being nice.

So know I know better. But about FaceBook...this wisdom she imparted to me:
1.) one of our FaceBook Friends was infected and sent false notes: "I don't like the mean things you're saying about me so I'm Unfriending you. (link)" .
This is a hacker scare tactic. Of course you want to know what set them off...an old trick hackers play on here. "Click this for a laugh" etc., etc.
DON'T FALL FOR IT. 2.) ALSO...how Mom got hacked...and
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!.....FaceBook will
NEVER EVER email you and ask you if you logged in from another computer.
NEVER even click on anything, ESPECIALLY the NO option. Hacked. Just like banks will NEVER email you about account problems, esp. if the title says "dear bank customer" instead of your name. They will CALL you.
3.) Pay for games on FaceBook? Watch it. I guess kids have been hacking in to siphon money from others to play games for free. Though I'm not sure about that one...I still think this was some jerk in some dark room with a laptop so nobody can track him, doing this to many "suckers". Often in other countries.
4.) Those foreign lotteries? FRAUD. Esp. if they ask you for a fee for anything. Also those damn "I am sending trillion$ to your bank account and need the following info..." PHISHING. Also those **** Dr. Oz ads on FaceBook. FRAUD. He endorses NOTHING on there. He's pissed about it too, and wants people to not get taken by those ads. ANYONE can make an ad on FB. It's been demonstrated on his show. It's scary.

Fraud is EVERYWHERE, people. Be smart.
Not 100% certain about the third one, but the first two and the fourth are proven. So be careful and still enjoy FaceBook for what it really is: a great way to communicate with your friends, family and classmates (if you don't want to or cannot CALL them or talk to them face-to-face...it's really handy

).
I apologize for the FaceBook "scares" but I don't want others to get hacked and suckered. I would be remiss and guilty of not sharing info if I didn't. I've been getting false FBI/CIA emails too to scare me. They DO NOT WORK that way. They will contact you in person. Don't let Phishing/Fraud emails intimidate you...most of it is false.
oh by the way I have another delightful case of Benign Paroxsymal (spelling?) Positional Vertigo. Wiki it up. It's terrible.
