northern cardinal. Most of the birds we saw were "tame", not really what I would call wild. Even this guy, and cardinals are skittish. This one did pose for a minute. When the others in my group moved on, he really turned it on. Let me take many close-up shots. It was wonderful. You know that exhillerating feeling you get when you see something incredible or once in a lifetime? Bingo. The cardinal is my Holy Grail bird. I almost NEVER get a decent shot of one. I did that day. :winner:
Now if only that Palm Warbler coulda been that accomodating...

btw if you see similar images in another account *RoyceandRaphRock no sweat: that's mine too. I'll put more bird pics up on there too. The pick of the crop.

Just very lucky. Even when these birds are used to people (and it's the time of year when there's not much to eat, so they mob us for birdseed) this is the LAST bird I would expect to land on someone's hand. (he didn't.) Thanks for the faves :D

Spring is coming like slow molasses flowing uphill on a January day. :snowing: We had 5-7 male cardinals in our backyard (this is the time they claim territory but seem to be tolerant around the bird feeders). Sadly, all were the typical skittish cardinal. Taking such pics of one like this guy was an absolute treat. I'm glad I had the opportunity.
Thanks for the Faves. :D
